Brett Thoft

In December of 2014, a great son, father, brother, and friend to many Brett Thoft, died in an airplane accident just out of Ronan, Montana. Brett was 33 years old and filled those years with more life experiences than most. He was an excellent bush pilot in Alaska and had an impact on many people.

Brett never stepped away from any task and lived every day creating a positive and caring lifestyle for his family and friends. His tenacity was a big part of our thought process when we decided to move forward with the Brett Thoft Memorial Foundation. When he passed away, we asked the question “What would Brett do and how do we as a family not only cope with this, but figure out how tragedy can have a positive impact?”, and everyone unanimously agreed that he would take a big step and chase his dreams. We hope to help others chase their dreams

through this foundation.

Since its founding, the Brett Thoft Memorial has made a significant impact on the local community by providing much-needed support to various organizations and individuals in need. The donation of coats for kids, support for school districts, Special Olympics, and other community initiatives have helped make a positive difference in the lives of many.

The Aviation Scholarships through Montana Aeronautics have also played a vital role in supporting the education and training of aspiring pilots, ensuring that they have the necessary resources to pursue their dreams in the field of aviation. This initiative has had a lasting impact on the lives of scholarship recipients, enabling them to further their education and achieve their goals in the aviation industry.

The foundation continues to provide support for flying events to increase interest in aviation. With donations we are able to provide helicopters at several events throughout the year and sponsor seats for kids interested in aviation. This is close to our heart because Brett was a fixed wing pilot and had a true love for helicopters. With the donation of time and money we can help further interest in aviation in our community. Overall, the impact of the Brett Thoft Memorial is far-reaching and continues to make a positive difference in the lives of many individuals and organizations in the local community.

This organization has been and will continue to be 100% volunteer. We believe even small contributions can help in big ways. One of our board members Holly Behm said it best, ‘He always did everything, he didn’t just talk about it. This is a good way to honor him and have a positive impact’.
